Tale
In the winter of 1862, during the Civil War, the US
Army sends a company of volunteers to patrol the uncharted territories of the West. Minervini had the set built in Montana and then let the cast live on it for two months.
Roberto Minervini is known for his dramatized yet documentary approach to rural American life
The dialogues and thoughts expressed are what the actors came up with as they lived in the wilderness imagining being soldiers in the Civil War. Filled with beautiful camera work and a meditative study between the Civil War era and its characters, Minervini provides an interesting new approach by discussing the aimless and terrible journey of the soldiers wondering and observing their surroundings and the battles of the war.
Solid sound designs, natural performances, and camera work help set the tone, atmosphere, and setting
It includes good direction used throughout and some of the battle sequences are well directed and presented. Although some of the dialogues end up feeling off-putting, which destroys the realism aspects at times.
I guess I’m a bit pretentious, lol
Overall, I found its beautiful and meditative approach to the Civil War interesting. I know a lot of people won’t like it, but I like it a lot.
